Law Review Board Announced

Animal Law CLE

The Humane Society of Pulaski County will present the 4th Annual Practical Animal Law CLE April 13 in the Friday Courtroom. Cost is $75 for attorneys and $60 for those not seeking CLE credit. The session awards 6.0 CLE hours, including 1.0 ethics hour. Contact Steve Schulte at 501.907.7070 for information.

Alumni Association CLE

You are invited to join Professor Coleen Barger at noon April 13 in the Student Lounge for another free CLE presented by the Bowen Alumni Association. The topic is "Challenging a Court’s Decision to take Judicial Notice of Materials on the Internet." There is no cost for alumni; non-alumni will be charged $25. Box lunches will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. for $10 or feel free to bring your own. 1.0 general hours of CLE credit pending with the Arkansas Continuing Legal Education Board. Alumni Updates

Amber Bagley-Wilson, ’04, was named a partner at the Little Rock law firm of Cross Gunter Witherspoon & Galchus, P.C. Amber is the current president of the Bowen Law Alumni Association and focuses her practice on health care, employee benefits, and general commercial/corporate law.

Don McKinney, ’95, has been accepted as a member of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of trial lawyers and judges with membership granted to those who can demonstrate significant experience in jury trial practice. Don is a member of the Health Care Litigation, Pharmaceutical and Medical Device practice teams of Adams and Reese LLP based in New Orleans.

Stewart Whaley, '98, and his team created the free app iProBono and released it on the iTunes app store. The program lets licensed Arkansas attorneys view pro bono cases representing low-income Arkansans. Attorneys can sort the cases based on legal topic and county. Cases can be requested through the app.

Casey Named Interim Dean

Professor Paula Casey will serve as interim dean for the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law. Casey’s tenure will begin July 1, and she will serve until the new dean is selected.

Casey is a former United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. She served on the Bowen faculty from 1978 to 1993 and rejoined it in 2001.

Casey has published in the areas of federal criminal prosecution, family, juvenile, and insurance law. She has taught Lawyering Skills, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Advanced Litigation, Family Law, and Property.

Law Review Board Announced

Bowen Law School is proud to recognize next year’s UALR Law Review editorial board. Samantha Cook, editor-in-chief, recently made the announcement for 2012-2013 academic year:

Editor-in-Chief – Abtin Mehdizadegan
Abtin Mehdizadegan graduated from the University of Maine in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in political science and communication. He has clerked for the Law Office of H. Chris Christy; the Army J.A.G. Corps in Monterey, Calif., at the Defense Language Institute; Wright, Lindsey & Jennings, LLP; and Cross, Gunter, Witherspoon & Galchus, PC. 

Executive Editor – Ellen Howard
Ellen graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2009 and majored in both journalism and political science. She worked as an intern for former Congressman Marion Berry during the summer of 2007.  Ellen previously clerked at the Attorney General's Office in the Medicaid Department and will be clerking for the Pulaski County Public Defender's Office starting in May.

Executive Editor – Thomas Wyatt
Tom graduated from the University of California at Riverside in 2006 with a degree in political science. He currently clerks at the Arkansas Municipal League. 

Managing Editor – Erin Anderson
Erin attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., and graduated with a degree in business administration.  She clerked at Wright, Lindsey, & Jennings in the fall, and is currently clerking at Williams & Anderson.

Articles Editor – Cassie Howell
Cassie graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in English and a minor in psychology.  She is currently clerking in the Civil Department at the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office. She previously clerked at the James Law Firm and at Mitchell Williams.  

Articles Editor – David Jung
David graduated from the University of Florida in 2002 with a Bachelor in Business Administration degree. He has clerked for Anderson, Murphy & Hopkins; Williams and Anderson; the Arkansas Attorney General’s office, Civil Division; and the Friday Firm. 

Notes and Comments Editor – Drew Bacon
Drew graduated from Hendrix College with a bachelor's degree in history. He has clerked for Williams and Anderson, PLC; Friday, Eldredge, and Clark, LLP; Gill, Elrod, Ragon, Owen, and Sherman, PA; and is currently clerking for Munson, Rowlett, Moore, and Boone, PA. 

Symposium Editor – Kitty Malcolm
Kitty graduated from the University of Central Arkansas and the Honors College in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in English, and received her Master of Business Administration from Webster University in 2004.  She is currently clerking for the Attorney General's Office in the Civil Department and recently externed with Judge Beth Deere. 

Online Editor – Matthew Ford
Matthew graduated from the University of Central Arkansas where he majored in biology and finished his college career as an undergraduate scholar for his work in the Honors College. He is currently a member of the UALR Bowen School of Law Moot Court Board, and he is currently clerking at Mitchell Williams.
